A man has been run over by his own car as he tried to stop it from being stolen at a service station on Brisbane’s northside.

The 59-year-old was inside an Aspley petrol station paying for fuel on Saturday morning when his ute was taken by a man who had been sitting in the passenger seat of a nearby sedan.

He ran outside and attempted to stop the theft but was hit by the car as the thief drove off, suffering an arm injury.

The driver of the sedan also sped off without paying for fuel, with police later finding that vehicle in a nearby car park with various stolen items inside.

Police investigations are continuing.
