Pumping Gas

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two men believed to be involved with skimming credit cards were caught during a traffic stop in Alachua County, the sheriff’s office said.

Polanco Yoannis and Ian Perez, both of Houston, Texas, are facing a variety of charges after deputies and officers from Gainesville found around 25 fraudulent credit cards in their vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

The pair were pulled over by the Domestic Highway Enforcement Unit, which is made up of personnel from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and the Gainesville Police Department.

The officers also found a large amount of new property believed to have been purchased with the fake credit cards and a diesel fuel theft pumping system.

The men were traveling from Houston to Miami through Gainesville when they were caught, deputies said.

Yoannis is charged with transportation of dangerous materials, larceny and possession of cocaine. Perez is charged with fraud, using fraudulent credit cards and trafficking in counterfeit credit cards.

Both men are being held in the Alachua County jail without bond.

Deputies said a skimmer was found in this week in a gas pump on Williston Road, and they urged citizens to closely watch their credit card statements for any sign of fraud.
